What it is

A crown covers the whole tooth to restore a broken, heavily filled or root-treated tooth, or to reshape it. Zirconia is a strong ceramic that needs no metal core, so there is no grey line at the gum.

For front teeth we use layered or E.max crowns for translucency; for back teeth, monolithic zirconia for strength.

  • Why patients choose it
  • Metal-free, no dark gum line
  • Strong enough for back teeth
  • Made in-house: fit and shade adjusted the same day
  • Also used on implants

Is it for me?

Is it right for me?

Usually a good fit

  • Broken or cracked teeth
  • Large old fillings
  • Root-treated teeth
  • Teeth too damaged for veneers

Not ideal, or treated first

  • Cosmetic changes on healthy teeth (veneers or bonding remove less enamel)
  • Untreated gum disease
Risks

What can go wrong

Every treatment has risks. Here are the honest ones, and what we do about them.

Enamel removal

A crown needs 1–2 mm of tooth removed all round. We only crown teeth that need it and use veneers or bonding for cosmetic changes.

Sensitivity or nerve irritation

A prepared tooth can be sensitive for weeks; occasionally a root treatment becomes necessary later.

Chipping of layered porcelain

Monolithic zirconia rarely chips; layered crowns on front teeth can, and are repaired or replaced.

Aftercare

Aftercare and how long it lasts

  • Normal brushing and flossing, especially at the crown margin
  • Night guard if you grind
  • Check-ups every 6–12 months
How long it lasts

10–15 years on average; monolithic zirconia often longer.

FAQ

Questions patients ask

How much are zirconia crowns in Turkey?

£[—] per tooth at Auradentis, versus £600–900 in the UK. A full set of 20 crowns is £[—].

Why do some clinics crown all 20 teeth?

Sometimes it is needed (worn or heavily filled teeth); often it is not, and veneers or bonding would remove far less enamel. Our plan says which teeth need which treatment and why.

How long does a crown take?

Four to six days in one visit, because the lab is in the clinic.

Zirconia or E.max?

Zirconia for strength (back teeth, grinders); E.max for translucency on front teeth. Often both in one smile.
